LEAD – Leadership in Health Equity for American Indian Research Development program

Welcome to LEAD!

The Leadership in Health Equity for American Indian Research Development program (LEAD) supports incoming first-year students and transfer students with the tools they need to succeed at the University of Arizona. LEAD is a one-year mentoring program for AI/AN students that provide a welcoming and supportive learning environment. As part of LEAD, you will receive:

  • Coursework and training in college life management and health equity
  • Educational enrichment through skills building
  • Leadership development training and community service opportunities
  • Research enrichment coursework, training, and peer and faculty mentorship
  • Cultural integration activities to honor AI/AN traditions
  • Networking opportunities to build friendships with other AI students
  • All expenses covered for a one-week workshop
  • Financial incentives for capstone project upon completion

LEAD Program Eligibility Criteria

  • American Indian/Alaska Native tribal member
  • Accepted into the UA
  • Available to attend the pre-semester orientation program
  • 1st-year freshman or Community college transfer students
