Maureen Oskandy

Career Story:

Winslow IHS 1985-88, Thomas-Davis Park and Ajo Clinic 1988-1996 (FP Dept. Chair), El Pueblo Neighborhood Clinic and San Xavier IHS 1997-1998, Associate Director of U of A Family and Community Medicine Residency 1997-98, Carondelet Medical Group 1998-2001, University of Arizona Campus Health Service 2001-present. Also volunteer faculty member (Clinical Assistant Professor) at U of A 1988-present.

Notable Personal Accomplishments:

Successfully (so far) raising 2 incredible kids while working part-time all these years. I believe that deciding to work part-time was one of the best decisions I have ever made. If my kids end up in a therapist's office, it won't be because I wasn't around (maybe it will be because I WAS around!)

Notable Professional Accomplishments:

Winning the Best Chief Resident of the Year award. Well, to be accurate, I won the popular (i.e. cockroach) vote. I believe it was actually Neil Murphy who won the official electoral vote, or was it Mark Mering?

Favorite Recreational Activity:

Hiking, cooking, playing music with friends, listening to jazz.

Favorite Memory from Residency:

The "No talent" shows, residency softball games, crazy dress up parties, and the infamous meeting with Tony Vuturo - do they have dictation yet at FPO? And such gratitude we all experienced when Neil and Mark were found ALIVE after getting lost in Arivaipa Canyon - we didn't have to take extra call for the dead interns!

Personal Story:

Married for almost 25 years to Steve Rachbach ('86). We have 2 sons, Ben (1989) and Tim (1994). Ben graduated from Swarthmore College in 2011 and Tim will graduate from Catalina Foothills High School in 2013.
