Fatima Giron Rivas, MD

Where are you from? San Salvador, El Salvador
Why did you choose UA Family Medicine? I chose to pursue residency at the University of Arizona Family Medicine Residency Program because of how supportive and welcoming the faculty, residents, and support staff were during my interview day. Once I interviewed here, I couldn’t be strongly interested in another family medicine program. This program offers amazing opportunities in academic medicine, integrative medicine, global health and even obtain master in public health if you are interested. Besides all that, I’ll be working with undeserved communities and I’ll get to use my Spanish on a daily bases with my patients.
What are you most excited about for life in Tucson? The weather for sure!!! Besides that, it’s a very affordable city in terms of rent and food. You will be able to save money and live very comfortably. Also, I’m looking forward to meeting new people and become a more outdoor person.
What are your interests or hobbies outside of medicine? I love singing (even if I don’t do it that well). I like watching movies or TV shows, listening to music (pop, rock, broadway, classical, opera and ballads), and hang out with friends.
What are your professional interests within medicine? Academic medicine, Integrative medicine, Public Health, Global Health (Latin America) and Preventive medicine
Favorite way to spend a day off? Cleaning the apartment, watching movies or TV shows, and hanging out with friends
Top item on your "Bucket list"? Finish residency successfully and becoming a fantastic family medicine physician
