Cynthia C. Johnston

Career Story:

After residency I worked for 3 years in the Indian Health Service at San Xavier, AZ. Then I joined a large group practice, The Tucson Clinic, just before it transitioned to an HMO. After 18 months I left to join the staff at the Tucson VA (now the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System) where I have stayed for the past 27 years. In that capacity I see my own patients, teach medical students on their Internal Medicine Rotation, as well as Internal Medicine Residents. For 15 years I worked in the emergency room as well as doing inpatient attending work, however I no longer do either as the hospital transitioned to a full hospitalist program

Personal Story:

I am still married to Bruce and we will celebrate our 37th anniversary this year. Our daughter, Lauren, is married and she is an attorney in Phoenix for the Attorney General's office. Our son, Stephen, also married, is a 2nd year medical student at the U of AZ College of Medicine.
