Alison Monahan, MD

Academic / Professional Bio:

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado; but lived in Eugene, Oregon while earning my undergraduate degree and Portland, Oregon for medical school.

Why did you choose UA Family Medicine?

I chose UA Family Medicine because the program offered everything I was looking for – full-spectrum primary care, global health, and substantial exposure to rural medicine. I want to care for underserved, diverse populations and UA Tucson provides this exact opportunity!

What are you most excited about for life in Tucson?

I am excited to experience desert life and 300+ days of sunshine especially since I am moving from the PNW. I am also looking forward to exploring Tucson’s food scene!

What are your interests or hobbies outside of Medicine?

When not in the hospital or at clinic, I love to spend time outdoors – hiking, camping, paddleboarding, playing pickleball, or downhill skiing! I also enjoy cooking and trying out new recipes!

What are your professional interests within Medicine?

My goal is to practice full-spectrum family medicine with a specific interest in global health, child-maternal health, and reproductive health care.

Favorite way to spend a day off?

In the morning, reading a book or doing the crossword while cuddling with my two cats. Then, doing something outdoors in the sunshine and finishing off by trying a new restaurant on my local foodie bucket list.

Top item on your "Bucket list"?

To visit all of the U.S. National Parks in my lifetime (16 of 63 completed) as well as travel to all seven continents (4 of 7 completed).
