Why did you choose UA Family Medicine?    
It's a well-rounded program! The program not only provides excellent full-spectrum training but there is an emphasis on resident wellness and health. The residents and faculty are amazing and Tucson provides a very diverse patient population.
What is your favorite thing about living in Tucson?    
Beautiful mountains and sunshine year-round!
What are your interests or hobbies outside of medicine?    
I love reading, cooking/baking, & traveling. I try to visit a new country every few years. Next on my list are: Jamaica, Greece, and Australia.
What are your professional interests within Medicine?
Obstetrics, underserved medicine including refugee and immigrant health, preventative health

Go tandem skydiving!

Tucson is such an eclectic place, there is something for everyone.

Swimming, biking, running, weightlifting, rock climbing

Nutrition, exercise and prevention
Favorite Way to spend a day off?    
Breakfast out, Swimming and watching my husband do the laundry.

This program had the coolest residents, as well as a large amount of faculty practicing Full-Spectrum Family Medicine!
What is your favorite thing about living in Tucson?    
The scenery and mountain views!
What are your interests or hobbies outside of medicine?    
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my fiancé Emily and our daughter Nora, refining my Spanish, running, and catching up on some well-deserved sleep.

It isn't crowded, but still isn't small

Erica Kumala, MD

Where are you from?     
Los Gatos, California
Why did you choose UA Family Medicine?    
I was excited about the ability to delve into integrative medicine at UA FM with the IMR modules. I also really liked everyone I met on my interview day and liked that I would have the chance to help a diverse, underserved population during residency.
What is your favorite thing about living in Tucson?
I love that there's no traffic compared to the big cities I've lived in previously.
What are your interests or hobbies outside of medicine?
Outside of medicine I like doing yoga, attempting to play decent guitar songs, and running to decompress.
What are your professional interests within Medicine?     
I am interested in integrative medicine, particularly mind-body medicine, stress management, and nutrition. I'm hoping I can incorporate these things into my practice in the future to help my patients with acute and chronic medical conditions.
Favorite Vacation spot?

Amy Rogers, MD

Why did you choose UA Family Medicine?    
I fell in love with the University of Arizona because of the incredible faculty and residents I met on my interview, the program's focused on the underserved especially Spanish speaking and refugee populations, the global health curriculum, opportunities to work with the mobile health clinic, the medical-legal services program within our own clinic, the program's leadership in integrative medicine and of course the year round sunshine in Tucson!
What is your favorite thing about living in Tucson?    
Everything! There’s no shortage of things to do outside whether its great hiking through the canyon 15 minutes from my house, mountain biking, perching up on a ridge for a sunset over the mountains or exploring any of the national parks surrounding Tucson. Never ending opportunities for great salsa and tacos!
A day trip to Sedona, Mexico or wine country. Two stepping and salsa dancing on the weekends! And the great people I work with!
What are your interests or hobbies outside of medicine?    
Hiking through the beautiful mountains surrounding Tucson, running, swimming, an occasional Muay Thai class, cooking, reading, counting down the minutes until the next GOT season and hanging out with my boyfriend and the amazing friends we’ve met so far in Tucson.
What are your professional interests within Medicine?     
Underserved populations, global health, advocacy, ultrasound, women's health and public health
"Bucket list" item?    
Camping trip in the Grand Canyon with an extended pit stop at Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon

Why did you choose UA Family Medicine?    
Best interview experience of any place--instantly made me feel like family.  Also, you get an incredible breadth of training in the program, which made me feel like I would be well prepared after residency.
What is your favorite thing about living in Tucson?    
The mountains since I missed them in Nebraska for medical school
What are your interests or hobbies outside of medicine?    
Fly fishing, yoga, concerts, and cheese (it has to be on all food I eat)
What are your professional interests within Medicine?     
My family is from the southwest and thus I have always wanted to live in the southwest and work with native populations, especially in the rural setting.
Favorite Way to spend a day off?    
Rock climbing with other residents, and then pool volleyball at Amy's house

Why did you choose UA Family Medicine?    
I chose to pursue residency at the University of Arizona Family Medicine Residency Program because of the warm and supportive people and atmosphere I experienced on interview day. Not to mention the weather and all the hiking really reminds me of Hawaii! The diversity of people and cultures here in Tucson is also absolutely wonderful.
What is your favorite thing about living in Tucson?    
Awesome hiking scene and the "winter" season
What are your interests or hobbies outside of medicine?    
Hiking, craft beer, Phillies baseball, live music, travel, and trying different cuisines
