UArizona Football Stadium

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for visiting our website and exploring our program. I am excited to share with you the defining features of our one year Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship!

Our fellowship was founded in 2004 with 2 Family Medicine fellows. In 2007 we accepted our first Emergency Medicine fellow. In each following year we have trained at least one fellow from both Family and Emergency Medicine. We believe that this combination enhances the learning experiences for fellows and faculty and allows us to provide the best possible care for our patients and athletes. We embrace the unique features of each specialty and are thankful for the ways they each enhance the practice of sports medicine.

As a part of the University of Arizona, a Division 1 PAC-12 institution, our fellows care for UA athletes at all levels. Fellows work in the training room, primary care clinics for athletes and students on campus, and are present on the sidelines to care for injuries as they occur. We are an unopposed program, so fellows have direct access to athletes and are involved in treatment and return to play discussions with athletes and coaches.

In the academic year 2009 we introduced diagnostic, portable ultrasound into our clinical practice and our curriculum. We have dedicated educational sessions on ultrasound use for diagnostic and procedural purposes and our faculty have been actively involved in the development of the sports medicine ultrasound curriculum endorsed by the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

Many of our faculty are involved in leadership roles at the local, regional and national levels. Our faculty serve as head and assistant team physicians in our community, including at the local, collegiate, professional and Olympic levels. Several of our faculty are actively involved with the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

Our graduates practice in many different capacities across the country. They serve as team physicians for professional and collegiate organizations, medical directors for high schools and other sporting organizations, and in out patient sports medicine clinics. No matter your interests our faculty are dedicated to supporting you.

While here I think you'll find Tucson to be an amazing city- a college town with an active adult community, an endurance training playground for cyclists, runners and triathletes, and home to preseason Major League Soccer training to name a few. In addition to the program's features the amazing weather, the low cost of living, the culture and the professional community make Tucson an outstanding choice for training!

I appreciate your interest and hope that you'll strongly consider the University of Arizona Tucson when applying for fellowship.

Sincerely,

Holly Beach, MD
