UA Mobile Health Program Receives $80,831 from Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation

The University of Arizona Mobile Health Program has provided low-cost and no-cost care to underserved families and individuals since 1976. Its focus is on preventive care and primary care.

The Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation has awarded $80,831 to the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson’s Mobile Health Program, which serves uninsured families and individuals in Pima County.

The D-backs “Ken Kendrick Grand Slam Award” will fund the purchase of two ultrasound machines, as well as new computers and telemedicine equipment that will enhance the Mobile Health Program’s mission of providing excellent prenatal care to pregnant women, thereby giving babies a healthy start in life.

The Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation announced the award at its annual “Evening on the Diamond” event in Scottsdale March 29.

“We are very grateful to the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation for this generous grant, which will help our Mobile Health Program provide the best possible care to underserved pregnant women and their children and families in and around our community,” said Myra Muramoto, MD, MPH, head of the UA College of Medicine –Tucson’s Department of Family and Community Medicine, which oversees the Mobile Health Program.

“For many individuals and families, the Mobile Health Program is the only place where they can get the health care they need,” said Ravi Grivois-Shah, MD, MPH, Mobile Health Program medical director and UA associate professor of family and community medicine.

The Mobile Health Program operates in partnership with Banner Health.

Since 1998, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation has awarded more than $50 million to Arizona non-profits.
