The Faculty Development Fellowship provides an opportunity for educational experiences in teaching to clinicians involved with the instruction of medical students and/or residents. In addition clinicians are provided with an opportunity to conduct a scholarly project.
Seminars are held monthly at the Arizona Health Sciences Center, Phoenix Campus. One or two seminars will be held on the Tucson Campus.
GOALS
- Develop basic competencies in teaching and evaluation.
- Familiarize participants with available resources and instructional technology to enhance and augment teaching.
- Provide skills in career planning & development planning.
- Provide resources and support for each participant to develop their own scholarly project.
- Improve teaching and learning at each participant's site.

ELIGIBILITY
Primary care clinicians who are involved or want to be involved with the instruction of medical students and/or residents.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF PARTICIPANTS
- Attend and participate in monthly seminars.
- Apply seminar content to the teaching of residents and/or medical students
- Conduct a project.
- Present project results to faculty and colleagues.
- Submit an abstract of the project for peer review and/or presentation at a regional or national meeting.
FORMAT
Participants attend monthly daylong seminars. Seminar topics include teaching skills, problem-based learning, standardized testing (OSCE), difficult patient/student, writing for publication and instructional technology. Some session content is determined by the participants.
TIME FRAME
Sessions will be held the second Wednesday each month from September to June. They will begin at 9:30 am and end at 4 pm. Lunch will be provided.
